as i understand it, firefighters work on a 24/48 schedule. and while on duty they are not allowed to leave the station, not even for lunch breaks or what you have it.

so, either makoto risked  getting suspension ( or whatever happens to them in these cases ) or as soon as he was  off duty ( uniform still on) first thing he did was go see his boyfriend.
